I definitely agree there is a difference between line breeding and in breeding.......

When you are looking for that right one, confirmation is a plus but you definitely want to check out the pedigree.......

Nothing worse to think you have one dog and the DNA shows different parents......

Hi, I just had a litter on Monday from a red pie and a blue & tan dapple. I got two solid reds. One appears to have some pale dappling, but I'll just have to wait on that I suppose. My question is Oz (sire) doesn't have any red in him at least three generations back. Where/how did I get the solid red?
Also, from what I'm reading & trying to understand is that if I breed Wylie (sire) who is an issy/tan to Mocha (choc & tan) if Mocha doesn't carry issy, I won't get it, right?

Hello Welcome to the forum Nice to have you here

Yes your very correct Isabella & Blue is a recessive gene meaning both parent's must carry so your Mocha would have to be a carrier to produce them.....And as far as the red pups goes it not un comman for that to happen .Sometimes a breeding can produce what you'd least expect Shocked Thats the thing I think I love about breeding there are so many surprises along the way .I have seen colors pulled from a pedigree further than 6 generations back ....Which is very cool

Wink I sorta had that feeling that was what you would say. Hmmm, I think I've just learned a valuable and expensive lesson. And now, it looks like I'm going to have to spend more money and get a couple of different girls....sounds like a bad problem, huh Laughing

thanks for the welcome, too!

It's ok I know how you feel Believe me in the beginning
of my breeding career I had my share of mishaps too.
Keep your Chin up dont let a little something that you
learned frustrate you .
Be confident because
you know now exactly how to get the Dilute
litter you want to produce Very Happy
